What is #DoWith?

#DoWith is an emerging grassroots movement bringing together people who believe that lasting change will come if government and public services do things with people rather than to them. The thinking behind this approach and why it is particularly urgent at this time of crisis is explored in this King’s Fund essay Doing With: reinventing public services in a time of crisis. Or if you prefer something shorter: the DoWith Charter.

#DoWith began in early 2025 when a group of national organisations came together around a shared frustration: across public services there are many people already finding better ways to do things with individuals and communities but the wider systems around them too often refuse to follow their lead. The result was the DoWith Call to Action, initially backed by thirty national organisations, and an online gathering in March attended by more than 800 people who wanted to turn that shared ambition into action.

Since then further online and in-person events have developed the idea of a #DoWith movement which has resulted in the DoWith Charter launched at The People’s Powerhouse Convention in Scarborough on 15th September 2026.

Our ambition is to turn the growing #DoWith network into a movement capable of changing how government and public services work. We want to connect people already practising #DoWith, support others to make change where they live and work, and build a powerful collective voice for wider reform. The DoWith Charter provides a common statement for that movement to organise around – and an invitation to anyone who shares its aims to become part of making them a reality.

Please read the Charter and if you like what you see, sign it online here. We'll then send you updates on our work and how you can get involved. As the movement emerges, these may be from a variety of different partners.

If you would just like to be sent updates and don't want to sign the public DoWith Charter yet, please use the Join Us Now form below.

Look out for #DoWith on social media and use the hashtag for your own posts too, to meet likeminded people.
